1. Dewinterize Your RV

During winterization, your RV’s plumbing system was filled with antifreeze to protect it from freezing temperatures. Now that spring is here, it’s time to flush it out and get your water system ready for adventure.

Dewinterizing involves draining the antifreeze, thoroughly flushing the system with a sanitizing solution, and then rinsing it again with fresh water to ensure everything is clean and safe for use.

For a step-by-step guide, check out our Tech Talks playlist on YouTube, where we walk you through the entire dewinterization process.

2. Clean and Inspect Your nuCamp RV

After months in storage, your RV needs a thorough cleaning and inspection to catch any potential issues.

  • Inspect the roof for any cracks, leaks, or damage.
  • Check the seals around windows, doors, and hatches for wear.
  • Clean and air out the interior to remove musty odors.
  • Inspect furniture, flooring, and upholstery for any signs of damage or mildew.
  • Search for any signs of pest infestations.

3. Review Your Electrical System

Your nuCamp RV’s electrical system powers everything from lights to appliances, so it’s essential to check that it’s functioning properly.

  • Inspect all interior and exterior lights.
  • Check your power cords and outlets for wear or damage.
  • Test your solar to ensure it’s charging correctly.
  • Verify that all appliances (fridge, stove, microwave, etc.) are operational.
  • Replace the batteries in your smoke detector.
  • Ensure your LP/CO detectors are operational.

4. Check Your Battery

Your battery may have lost charge over the winter, and now is the time to ensure it’s fully functional.

  • Test the voltage with a multimeter; a fully charged 12V battery should read around 12.6V.
  • If needed, recharge or replace the battery.
  • Clean the terminals and check for corrosion.
  • Ensure proper connections are secure.

5. Test Your Propane System

Check your propane system for leaks to ensure a safe and worry-free camping season.

  • Open the propane tank and check for leaks by applying soapy water to the connections.
  • Inspect hoses and fittings for any cracks or damage.
  • Light your stove to confirm it’s operating correctly.
  • Test your heating and hot water system.

6. Inspect Your Tires

Your tires are one of the most critical safety components of your RV, and after sitting all winter, they may need attention.

  • Check the tire pressure and inflate to the recommended PSI.
  • Inspect for cracks, dry rot, or uneven wear.
  • Tighten lug nuts and ensure proper alignment.

Helpful Tip: Check out our Tech Talk on Tire Care.

7. Restock Your Essentials

Before you hit the road, make sure you have everything you need for a smooth trip.

  • Replace expired first-aid supplies.
  • Restock toiletries, kitchen supplies, and cleaning products.
  • Verify that you have all necessary tools and spare parts, including a tire repair kit and fuses.
