Beyond the Traditional Campground: Unique Overnight Options

Sure, you can park your teardrop at one of the many run-of-the-mill campgrounds that are located throughout the country. But why not make the most of your on-the-road experience by choosing locations where you can enjoy the type of experiences that aren’t available back home?

Choose Your Own Adventure

If you’re a wine enthusiast, schedule a stop at a winery. From Napa Valley to the Finger Lakes, Virginia to Texas, fall is the perfect time to enjoy the grape, either in hand or by the glass. Google “wineries with RV parking” and go from there!

Yearning for the cowboy (or cowgirl) experience, search for ranches with RV parking. For example, Longhorn Ranch Resort in Wyoming offers horseback riding (summer only) and history. Get out from behind the wheel and get into the saddle for a true wilderness experience!

Explore the “Inner You”

Visiting an unfamiliar location can also spark an interior journey as well, encouraging you to explore your creative side. At Arizona’s Voyager RV Resort take advantage of dance, music, writing, and arts and crafts classes.

Work out the kinks from long hours behind the wheel at Massachusetts’ Normandy Farms with a massage or a private yoga class or two. Namaste!

Go Glamping

Indulge in a luxury vacation without the luxury price. Search “luxury RV resort” and you’ll find campgrounds with a list of amenities that go far beyond electrical hook-ups and showers. California’s Durango RV Resort offers massages and craft workshops, as well as catered meals and musical events during three-day weekends. Rely on the RV Network

For access to some unique North American RV destinations, consider joining Harvest Hosts®. That’s what veteran campers and active bloggers Steve and Karen Thole of Cullowhee, North Carolina did more than a year ago. Since then, they have stayed at places like a cherry orchard at harvest time (Wright’s Farm in Gardiner, New York) and the Pioneer Tunnel Coal Mine Museum in Ashland, Pennsylvania, where they took the train tour into the mine to learn about its history.

“Another great experience was the time we parked next to the llama pen on the grounds of a farm store at Bishop’s Orchard in Connecticut!” said Steve.

Whether you’re into agri-tourism or the great outdoors, want to explore your creative side or desire an “all about me” indulgence, a little advance planning can help turn your RV road trip into a unique experience!
